Crocheting eggs for Easter in a CAL

Crocheting eggs for Easter in a CAL

Because I don’t have anything nice or colorful in the house for Easter yet. I decided to participate in a CAL. I did not know what this was, but learned it along the way. When I saw a CAL for Easter eggs the other day, I decided this would be a good time to join in crochet eggs for Easter

What is a CAL?

Last year I participated via the site ‘Wolplein’ in the CAL of a home blanket. Before I started, I had to look up what CAL means. Crochet Along (CAL). With a CAL, at a set time (say, every week or month) a piece of pattern from a project is released via a website, blog or Facebook.

In the case of a mystery CAL, not only is the pattern a surprise but also what, for example, the blanket or shawl will look like when it is finished. With the living blanket I learned a new crochet stitch every week and in addition to a beautiful blanket I learned a lot.

Eggs

Now came Wolplein with an Easter CAL. In two weeks, six patterns for crocheting eggs. I decided to take part in this project to make nice designs and ideas for the Crea Cross theme. Through the site of Wolplein you can buy a kit with the colors and wool as they use for the CAL. However, I decided to use my own wool, since I still have a lot of colors lying around here.

I always crochet with wool from Zeeman, and have them in many colors and sizes.

Download patterns

Monday the first pattern came online. The patterns are downloadable and I immediately started on the first egg. Now they are crocheting this CAL with a crochet hook 2. This is for me -with my bad eyes- really not to do, so I decided to make the eggs a bit bigger and crocheted them with crochet hook 3 and also with 3,5 for variation.

I don’t hang them in an Easter tree anyway, so it doesn’t matter that they are a bit bigger.

Monday: the start was an easy pattern, very nice to get into it. The egg was crocheted with one color and the dots with different colors of wool and attached to the egg.

WednesdayThis egg was more difficult, not the egg itself, which was the same as on Monday, but the bow and the flowers were. With no way I managed to follow the pattern of the bow. I drew it all out, but did not come up with a bow.

I then decided to do a little juggling of my own and, lo and behold, a sort of bow came out. The flowers went very well.

Friday: A whole new challenge. With this egg I had to crochet tunic. I had not done this before, so it was something completely new for me. In retrospect, I crocheted a little too tightly.

The egg is a bit out of shape . It can’t spoil the fun, because I had a lot of fun making this Easter egg.

A new technique, tunic crochet

Monday: Full of excitement for which technique and pattern will be online today. This was another fun egg to crochet. The flowers were crocheted differently again, but when I read the patterns carefully I manage to crochet the flowers just fine.
